Students Profile

ThankGod Nwokocha

MS in Materials and Metallurgical Engineering

Advisor

Dr. T.D. Burleigh

ThankGod (TG) Nwokocha is pursuing his Master of Science degree in Materials and Metallurgical Engineering at New Mexico Tech. He works as a Teaching Assistant in the department and also works as a Research Assistant under the guidance of Professor T.D. Burleigh. TG’s research focuses on determining the corrosion rate of 316L stainless steel under varying concentrations of HCl and FeCl3 solutions. The objective is to estimate the lifetime of containers made from 316L stainless steel.  As a Teaching Assistant, TG is the head TA for the “Materials Engineering 1 Laboratory” where he instructs the other TA’s and also teaches sections of the lab.  The students commented favorably that TG helped connect everything they did to the real world, therefore it was easier to understand.

TG has been a volunteer at the NMT Bike Club repair club for the past two years where he has repaired hundreds of bicycles so students can speed their movement between school, work and their other activities.  He has also been a leader organizing the graduate student pick-up soccer games.

ThankGod Nwokocha earned his undergraduate and postgraduate degree certificates in Mechanical Engineering from Yaba College of Technology and the Federal University of Technology, both in Nigeria. TG has over ten years of work experience in one of the largest renewable energy companies in Nigeria. In this role, he supervised the installation of multiple units of wind and solar hybrid energy, and he also had training on renewable energy in both Hong Kong and in the United Arab Emirates. His enthusiasm for materials processing has driven him into his current studies in the world of materials engineering.

ThankGod Nwokocha is happily married to Mrs. Funmilola Nwokocha, who is a graduate student of Mechanical Engineering at NMT. Together, they are blessed with two beautiful daughters.
