1999 Wrangler: The Final Sound Upgrades

The big weakness
The factory speakers are placed in bad locations within the cab. I understand that the Wrangler only has so many places to put speakers and that when installed, they must be somewhat water tight and out of the way. With that said, the placement of the speakers sucks and really holds back the whole system. The biggest problem is the lack of bass and this is simply because the soundbar is located too close to the listeners. Now I am not looking to rattle everybodys windows but I wold like to be able to hear the lower tones.

The other one
The stock speakers in the dash really need to go and the solution is in the mail, a set of Infinity 6402cfp plate speakers. By placing the soundbar 5.25" speakers in the dash for the time being, I have discovered a problem with having bigger speakers in the dash. They rattle it to death. So I decided on a set of 4"x6" plate speakers that should solve the vibration problem and give me great mid-range and treble. They should be here soon and will be a snap to install.

The bass fix
I have been a fan of Bazooka Tubes for a long time but I have never owned one. So I decided to try one. In the end, I was the proud new owner of a Bazooka 6.5" BT6014 sub, a Blaupunkt PCA250M 2-channel amp and a wiring kit. And because I picked up the amp from a friend, it only cost me a total of $160.

The amp/sub install
The install went really well thanks to the wiring kit I purchased. The biggest problem I faced was where to mount the amp and sub. I decided to make a simple wooden platform that I could mount to the top of the add-a-trunk in the back.

More bass?
I have to say that so far I am very pleased. The sub has a lot of potential and although I have been rather conservitive with it so far, it is really doing a great job. And the amp just works, no complaints.

The results of the whole system upgrade
