POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT
ATMOSPHERIC PHYSICS AT LANGMUIR LABORATORY

A new tenure-track faculty position in Physics at New Mexico Tech is expected to begin in August 2002. The appointment is at the assistant professor level, although candidates with exceptional credentials may be considered for a higher level appointment. Applicants must have a Ph.D. in physics or a closely related field, and a demonstrated record of research accomplishments normally achieved through postdoctoral experience or the equivalent. The successful candidate will be expected to excel in teaching undergraduate and graduate physics courses, establish independent research programs and attract the necessary outside funding, and supervise undergraduate and graduate student research.

The Physics Department has active research programs in atmospheric physics, astrophysics, and experimental plasma physics. Major research facilities nearby include Langmuir Laboratory for Atmospheric Research, operated by New Mexico Tech, and the Very Large Array and Very Long Baseline Array radio interferometers, operated by the National Radio Astronomy Observatory. New Mexico Tech is also leading the development of the Magdalena Ridge Observatory, an optical interferometer facility to be located about 27 kilometers west of campus within the Langmuir Research Site. We seek the candidate with the strongest credentials and promise of future accomplishmnt in an area which strengthens existing research in atmospheric physics, particularly activities at Langmuir Laboratory. Exceptional candidates may also be considered who could contribute to the development of the Magdalena Rodge Observatory.
