Preliminary Design Review (Presentation and Proposal)

Allotted Presentation Time (including questions): 20 minutes
Presentation Equipment Available: computer
projector with MS PowerPoint 97 and an overhead projector
Presentation Objective: Present your proposed
design solution to a technical review group in order to justify
your approach as well as solicit input concerning your design.
Design Review Grading:
- Presentation (clarity, slide readability, organization, speaker
transition, time limit, eye contact, appropriate dress, etc.):
40%
- Justification and feasibility of design (items listed below): 50%
- Ability to answer questions about design: 10%
Presentation Items:
- Instructor will give overview of project objective prior
to presentations.
- Topics to include:
- requirements/specifications
- overview of your proposed design
- alternative solutions considered and justification of your proposed solution
- block diagrams good for overview of component/system interconnections
- manpower allocation
- estimated power budget
- estimated budget
- timeline with milestones
- Items not to include:
- very detailed schematics (save these for reports)
Proposal
Due Date: One proposal from each group is due February 20 by
2:00pm
Audience: Technically capable group (potentially unfamiliar
with your project) asked to review your design and budget
Report Objective: Present your proposed
design solution to a technical review group in order to justify
your approach and resources (budget, manpower, and time).
Grading:
- Document Layout/Format (organization; neatness; table of contents; figure,
page, and table numbering, ...): 10%
- Document Readability/Grammar/Spelling: 20%
- Document Content (items listed below and in presentation): 70%
Potential Layout:
- introduction (identify problem, provide background, identify purpose of
this document, document map, ...)
- statement of problem (thorough description of problem, specifications,
...)
- proposed solution (alternatives, justification, details of chosen design,
block diagrams, ...)
- management plan (schedule, costs, personnel, qualifications, ...)
