Shima Kai Dojo

The Shima Kai Dojo is named in honor of my Sensei, Harold Kojima who I have trained with since 1992. His family name, Kojima, translates as small island. The word for “island” in Japanese is “shima or jima”depending on how it is used, and “kai” means group or association. Thus Shima Kai Dojo is the training hall of the island group and is a bit of a play on the idea that New Mexico is completely land locked. Kojima Sensei currently heads the Shindokan Dojo in Ontario.
