382 Weekly Report M.S.Shams --------------------------- The primarily I started with was search in web sites available through EE. They are the previous reports on the robot project and any other information that help with the getting a good grasp of the big picture. The team met for the first time outside of the lab on Monday 25th, at which discussed the assignment of responsibilities of team members and for everyone to go and fine out more about the project primarily to come with some question to help us with our project. I also read the assigned readings in the textbook, which is easy to read. This week again we are going to meet on Tuesday 2nd to discuss the parts we need for our robot and exchange any information that we were to gather until then. I have already started to read about the sensors and I am going to do more research during the weekend on that as well. I do realize that is a big task and I will request of my partners for help on that. Hopefully, we also are able to put some of the parts together. I definitely look forward for your input on any of this. The date is: Fri Feb 5 11:48:38 MST 1999 Feb. 5th 1999 M.S. Shams The Robot design report # 2 This week I have done some more research regarding the sensors needed for our robot design and have desided on the selection of sensors for our design. For instance five sensors will be needed , three as distance measuring sensors, which are GP2D12/GP2D15 and other two sensors are photo diodes. One of these photo diodes will be used for detecting of the flame at its intensity and the other diode would be used for white-line detection. Our meetings are going kind of slow but well due to influx of inputs and suggestions. The H-bridges have been tested in a circuit with the motors and its design or implimention is next step being worked on by two of the partners. For next week my focus would be on cuircuitry of the sensors and figuring out their implementation. And may be if time allows work on their programming of them. But I believe the design part of might take sometime to do. The date is: Fri Feb 12 11:23:36 MST 1999 2/12/99 M.S.Shams Junior project report # 3 It seems not everything gone on plan. I kept on studying more on the sensors at first part the week, thinking that we could do some circuit work by Thursday but I proceeded to have stomach flu and addition to that had a exam. This week I am going to meet one other team member on Saturday to make sure we are not falling behind and start on getting the presentation ready for next week. The date is: Thu Feb 18 19:11:44 MST 1999 2/18/99 M.S.Shams Junior Project # 4 We started to put things together for the pulmonary presentation, which was due for Thursday the 18th. After working out the estimated power budget with the team, everyone was to focus on what we were going to individually to present. Therefore, the rest of the time was spent to do more reading and research. For this week I am going to start putting the code together for the sensors. Also buy some of sensors that I need and put the circuit together. The date is: Fri Feb 26 11:35:13 MST 1999 2/26/99 M.S.Shams Junior Design Report # 4 On Tuesday I built the circuit for our distance-measuring sensor. Then started to test it by putting a thick object like book in front of it. The handout that we have got indicates a problem, which at our Vmax there are two voltages for the same distance showing on the graph, thus in order to eliminate that problem I moved sensor about 4 centimeter inside of robot and that gave us 7 centimeter for our Vmax. At this point we had to also consider the angle that sensor has to be set in order to for it to see the wall at all angles which for a while could not get the same Vmax = 2.58V. On Thursday we kept on working on it for a while and we got closer to the desired voltage but no cigar yet. Also we managed to get our ordering of parts together and send in a request for them. For next Tuesday we have planed to work on fire detecting sensor and the white line detector. For Thursday we are hopefully working on the programming of the distance measuring sensor and motor control programming. The date is: Tue Mar 9 10:21:25 MST 1999 3/9/99 M.S.Shams Junior Project Report # 6 On Tuesday I started with circuit which was used in a design in spring of 97. In that schematic a transistor was used with a 1k resistor at the collector (output) and on the emitter side a 1micro-farrad capacitor and parallel to it a 10k pot to one of the inputs of the LM324 amplifier the other input would come in from our common collector output. We failed to get the desired output from this design. On Thursday I spent some time one of people that had JD before and he suggested using a feed back in our design. We set the 10k pot as the feed back, and also changed the output of the transistor from the emitter. At 10 volt Vcc we where able to get 3V at about 12 cm as our maximum voltage and the minimum at about 1V and 65cm. Then we tried with 5Vcc and we got 3.65volt max. At 10cm for the min. volt we saw .7 @ 2.5ft. Thus we got our flame detector sensor-working fine, which is going on the printed board circuit and will be duplicated because it is also going to used on with the servo we are going to use. For this week our plan is to get the line sensor put together and gets the motor running with the controlling program. The date is: Fri Mar 12 11:35:13 MST 1999 3/12/99 M.S.Shams Junior Design Report # 7 On Tuesday once again we had to work with Fire sensor because the circuit from the week before was tinker with and one of amplifiers on quad Op-Amp was saturated. Thus I switched to the second amplifier and the time it worked as before. I am going to solder it. On Thursday Sean and I started working on the White- Line detector as it is built its working with variation of about 2.6V which is a good variation and we reading on comprator or Schmidt trigger to implement in our circuit to make sure of continues result at all time. For next week I am planning to work on getting all three sensors ready for mid-term. The date is: Fri Apr 9 09:52:57 MDT 1999 M.Saeed Shams Junior Project Report This week I've been working on main program along with programming the wall_detector & white_line detector after doing about ten different algorithm I believe I've got it last night I started with codes for respective program which I'm planning to finish over the weekend. As for next week trouble shooting is on the top the list and implementing it to the HC11. In addition, I'll be working towards getting the resolution circuit of white line detector finished. The date is: Fri Apr 23 10:18:03 MDT 1999 M.S.Shams Junior project report This week kept on working on the algorithm for wall detecting as well as white line detecting. After I got an algorithm that I was satisfied with and got the agreement of my partners on then I started with writing the code, which was finished by Tuesday. The code in hand is based on activating and using every sensor. This is based on the desired threshold voltage that we get from a sensor. Next week I'll working with the group to implement the code along with what Tony would have by then. The date is: Fri Apr 30 15:26:43 MDT 1999 M.Saeed Shams Junior Design Project This week most of the focus has been on getting ready for the final presentation of our project. I’ve been putting of what I am going to talk about and getting my slides and or floppy files in order. The team got together to practice the order of presenting our materials. I believe we are ready. Next week back to the grind again working on left following, the immediate problem that is presenting itself. And I going to work on getting the thresholds needed for wall sensor and white line sensor. The date is: Fri May 7 15:25:42 MDT 1999 M.Saeed Shams Junior Design Report (last one) During this week the focus was to prepare for the final presentation as well as the final evaluation for Bleep (the robot). The robot is still in its final testing stages but we made sure the wall following has been tested to present ability given the short time that we had to the time of final evaluation. And spent some time to absorb what we have learnt as to working with each other from the robot. I must say it was an experience to with group and the fact that was able to learn for each of team members. This I’m helping to write final report. I want to thank you for your help and being there when we needed you. Have good summer. Thank you
