EE382 Robot Competition Information

Contest Date, Time, and Location: Saturday, May 1, 1999 at 1:00pm in Workman 101

Rules: National Rules will be utilized with the exception of one additional run for four total and no furniture (see score computation below). The judges can interpret the rules as they see fit and their decision will be final.

Scoring:

  1. Multiply the Operating Modes together to get the Mode Factor (MF): MF = Sound x Return x Ramp.
    • for sound start, Sound = 0.95; otherwise Sound = 1
    • for returning home, Return = 0.9; otherwise Return = 1
    • for using ramp, Ramp = 0.7; otherwise Ramp = 1
  2. Record the Actual Time (AT) in seconds needed to put out the candle.
    • AT = 500 if robot doesn't move (and obviously candle not put out)
    • AT = 450 if robot moves and navigates, but candle not put out
    • AT = 400 if candle found, but not put out
  3. Add all the Penalty Points (PP) together.
    • hitting a wall = 5 points/hit
    • sliding along wall = 1 point/inch touching
    • hitting the candle or base = 50 points
  4. Record the Room Factor (RF).
    • candle in 1st room, RF = 1.0
    • candle in 2nd room, RF = 0.9
    • candle in 3rd room, RF = 0.8
    • candle in 4th room, RF = 0.7
  5. Add the Actual Time (AT) to the Penalty Points (PP) to get the Time Score (TS): TS = AT + PP.
  6. Multiply the Time Score (TS), Room Factor (RF), and Mode Factor together (MF) to get the Run Score (RS) for that trial: RS = TS x RF x MF.
  7. After 4 runs, add the two lowest Run Scores (RS) together to get the Sum of Best 2 Runs (SB2R).
  8. Detemine Consistency Factor (CF).
    • for 4 successful runs, i.e., candle was extinguished, CF = 0.8
    • for 3 successful runs, CF = 0.9
    • for 2 successful runs, CF = 1.0
  9. Multiply the Sum of Best 2 Runs (SB2R) times the Consistency Factor (CF) to get the Final Score (FS): FS = SB2R x CF.
  10. The Robot with the lowest Final Score is the winner.
