EE443.01: PROBLEM SET 1

  1. Give two examples (other than those presented in class) of open-loop control systems. For each system, indicate (a) process to be controlled, (b) desired output, (c) actuator, and (d) disturbances that can cause the actual output to vary from the desired output.
  2. For the open-loop control system examples you gave above, discuss how you would create a closed-loop control system from them to lessen the effects of disturbances. Make sure to denote (a) the controller and (b) sensors added.
  3. Problem P1.1. Do problem as presented with the exception of adding disturbances to the block diagram and discussion.
  4. Problem P1.10. The controller's task is to keep an airplane precisely on a flight path in order to avoid collisions. Include disturbances (and examples of them) in your block diagram.
