Course Objectives:

1. Design and build a mobile robot capable of competing in the Trinity College Fire Fighting Home Robot Contest or other mobile robot project approved by instructors.
2. Develop teaming skills, oral and written communication skills, and ability to decompose large problems.

Course Prerequisites:

• EE308 & EE308L (Microcontrollers)
• EE321 & EE321L (Analog Electronics)
• EE341 (Introduction to Linear Systems and Control Theory)

Topic Prerequisites:

1. In-depth knowledge of the MC68HC11 microcontroller.
2. Analog and digital circuit design.
3. Principles of linear time-invariant systems.
4. Proficiency in C programming.

Required Text: "Mobile Robots: Inspiration to Implementation", 2nd Edition by Joseph Jones, Anita Flynn, and Bruce Seiger

• Preliminary Design Review on Th 02/18/99 at 3:30pm in Workman 113
• Midterm Functionality & Design Evaluation in class T 03/23/99
• National Contest will be held at Trinity College in Hartford, CT on Sunday, April 18, 1999
• Final Presentation at 9:00am on S 05/01
• New Mexico Tech Competition at 1:00pm on S 05/01
• Final Functionality & Design Evaluation in class on T 05/04 or Th 05/06
• Final Report due by 5:00pm on T 05/11

Grading:

• Weekly Reports: 10%
• Preliminary Design Review: 15%

• Group Members Evaluation: 15%

Additional Requirements:

1. All control must be closed-loop
2. Main program must be in 'C'
3. No wire-wrapped boards other than HC11 expansions at project end
4. Only good connectors at project end
5. Each group will provide HC11 evaluation board and multimeter
